Why you should replace your air filter this winter

We stress regular maintenance on your HVAC system constantly, but this doesn’t only mean yearly tune-ups – it also refers to assessing your air filters. It’s a quick way to help keep your system operating smoothly and enhance your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it on your own! Now is the best time to inspect your filter, as the cold season comes to a close and summer is nearing. There are many benefits to changing out your air filter, such as:

Extending the life and efficiency of your system
A guaranteed way to cause a system breakdown is a dirty air filter. Additional dirt that gathers on your filter can influence your whole system to run harder than it should to keep you cool. Not only will it impact the performance of your system, but it can escalate your utility bills and end with an overheated system.

Enhancing indoor air quality
The goal of an air filter is that it catches contaminants through your air system before it flows into your house. As the filter gets older, the less effective it is in catching things like dust and mold that can hurt the health and comfort of your home, which is even more critical if someone in your home suffers from allergies or asthma. With spring around the corner, pollen and mold are especially expected to be hanging around and you certainly don’t like the idea of it circulating in your house. A quality, clean air filter will help your family breathe easy and keep healthy during allergy season.

Inspect your system or current air filter provider for suggestions on how frequently you should be swapping out your filter. For the majority of the filters through Ilten's Incorporated, we advise an annual change with the highest MERV filter available. Not sure if it’s the ideal time to change your air filter?
